WedgWood Women's Club
Celebrating 57 years of friendships and service to the community!!
Sue Zeller - Club President
- The first resident of the Wedgwood Development in Washington Township formed the Wedgwood Women's Club in March 1966. The meetings were originally held in the homes of the fifteen members, one original member is still active, Miki Venuti. Since 1966 all of the womens' clubs in the various developments through-out Washington Township merged taking the name of Wedgwood Women's Club. Since it's inception, the club expanded to include all of Washington Township and surrounding areas. The membership has grown 10 times but the purpose has stayed the same, we work together not only for the charitable interests but also for the friendships. Wedgwood Women's Club meets at 6:00 PM on the second Tuesday of each month, except July and August, at Valleybrook Country Club, 200 Golfview Dr., Blackwood, NJ 08012. Each month our meetings start with a light dinner, a program (usually a speaker from a local business etc.) we break for dessert and this is followed by a short meeting. For our club members we have an indoor yard sale at the Country Club and Lunch with Santa for our children. We take approximately 4-6 one-day bus trips a year (New York, Art Museum, Atlantic City etc.) and have taken many over-night bus trips (from long weekends to eight days in length). We have cruised the Caribbean and the Hawaiian islands also sailed two European Viking River Cruises. We are a social club that gives back to the community. Over the 55 years our club has given over 800 food baskets to families at the holidays, adopted familites who needed a little help at Christmas time, supported Washington Township High School's events, sports teams, Chamber Choir, ROTC, supported Mother's Matter, given to the Toys for Tots Campaign for 20 years, and supported many other charitable organizations. We have always tried to give back to our community whenever we can. Through the years our club has awarded over $100,000.00 in scholarships to the high school seniors of Washington Township, $102,000.00 in scholarships to women returning to school to attend Rowan College at Gloucester County, along with $25,000 in book money to go along with scholarships. In 2000 our club established a $20,000.00 Endowment Scholarship Fund with Rowan College at Gloucester County, which allows an award of a $1,000.00 scholarship each year. It is with great pride we were able to award scholarships to two women to attend Rowan College at Gloucester County and then scholarships to go straight through Rowan University. One recipient of our scholarship graduated in May 2020 with the other graduating in the summer of 2021. Wedgwood Women's Club is the longest standing club in Washington Township. Out of the 23 Presidents of our club 5 are still active: Miki Venuti 1974, Pat Parker 1981, Barbara Marsella 1986 & 1987, Sue Zeller 1990 to the present.
